- Abstract
- A significant number of works of art are inspired by the rich content of mythologies, which are indicative of the way ancient peoples viewed the world. Recently, comic strips have also turned to these myths and legends, which have given rise to original works of art. The comic strip Thorgal, by Jean Van Hamme and Grzegorz Rosiński, is part of this rewriting of Scandinavian myths and legends, staging the adventures of a hero in constant interaction with the divine world. The aim of this dissertation is to study the designs pursued by the borrowing from Nordic mythology in Thorgal. We ask ourselves the following questions and try to answer them through our study: what are the scriptwriting objectives sought by the exploitation of Scandinavian myths? Furthermore, what contribution does mythology make to the progression of the story and the hero's adventures? The following albums provide answers to these questions: L'Enfant des Étoiles (volume 7), La Gardienne des Clés (volume 17), Géants (volume 22) and La Bataille d'Asgard (volume 32).
