Abstract

In deze thesis wordt de rol van de media bij de verspreiding van informatie over het milieu en aanverwante onderwerpen onderzocht. Om deze problematiek te analyseren, ben ik begonnen met een grondige beschrijving van de massamedia en de voor- en nadelen van de verschillende communicatiemiddelen. Vervolgens heb ik de rol van de media bij het doorgeven van informatie besproken; in hoeverre moeten ze een louter verslag uitbrengen en in welke mate moeten zij een wake-up call geven? Vervolgens ben ik nader ingegaan op de milieujournalistiek, de oorsprong ervan, de rol van milieujournalisten, enz. In het tweede deel, het praktische gedeelte, zal ik de meningen van 75 personen analyseren over de verschillende onderwerpen die in het theoretische gedeelte aan de orde zijn gekomen. Daarna zal ik de mening van de specialisten vergeleken met de resultaten die ik in de enquête krijg. Tenslotte analyseerde ik de manier waarop de energietransitie werd behandeld in de media en ik heb mijn waarnemingen vergeleken met de theorie en de meningen die ik via de enquête heb verzameld.

This thesis examines the role of the media in spreading information about the environment and related topics. In order to analyse this issue, I started with an in-depth description of the mass media and the advantages and disadvantages of the different means of communication. Then I discussed the role of the media in transmitting information; to what extent should they limit themselves to neutral transmission of information and to what extent should they give a warning signal ? Then I went into more detail on the subject of environmental journalism, its origins, the role of environmental journalists, etc. In the second part, the practical part, I will analyse the opinions of 75 people on the different topics discussed in the theoretical part. Then I will compare the opinions of the specialists with the results obtained in the survey. Finally, I analysed the way the energy transition was covered by the media and compared my observations with the theory and the opinions gathered in the survey.
