Abstract
The organizational structure of a company is a crucial component of its strategic approach, particularly when operating internationally and engaging in a diversified portfolio of activities. Magotteaux, a company of Belgian origin, active in the mining, cement and aggregates industries, is present in more than 150 countries, possessing its own production plants and having sales offices and research centers spread across different continents. To adapt to a constantly evolving international environment, Magotteaux decided - inside its multidivisional structure - to shift from a product-based division to a geographical area division. The aim of this thesis is to assess the relevance of this new structure. Therefore, we will follow a three-step approach: an overview of Magotteaux in its environment, some points of theory of organizational structures and strategies in the context of the concerned industries (secondary research), and a deep analyze of 11 qualitative interviews of managers (primary research). The main highlight of this thesis confirms the decision of the company: this new structure seems to be aligned with its strategy and environment. However, some adjustments could be improved and those are developed in this paper. The outcome of this thesis should be seen as a small step to engage meaningful discussions with the protagonists in the interest of the company.
