Abstract
This work is interested in the relocation of a textile value chain in Belgium, through a concrete case, Opte. It is a young Belgian company of eco-responsible clothing in a context where the big companies dominate the market. They offer a local, sustainable and ethical alternative, with production entirely in Belgium, with a pre-order system and a very strong involvement of its customers. The first part of the work highlights the challenges of ethical fashion in Belgium, addressing the lack of sewing workshops, the competition of greenwashing and the evolution of consumer expectations. Opte’s study then allows us to understand how they manage to relocate their production, while remaining in the line of their ecological values Then, the analysis of Opte’s strengths, ranging from its direct relationship with customers, through their transparency and co-creation tool to their committed communication. However, it also shows the obstacles encountered, particularly at the logistical level, where the company had problems with delivery. Finally, this work provides concrete recommendations to strengthen the viability of the Opte project. These recommendations can be a strengthening of the logistics, an expansion of the range, a geographical expansion or even a development of the B2B market as well as the opportunities present in Belgium. Opte is an inspiring example of a local company that seeks to reduce the negative side of the textile industry.
