- The Oxford Cognitive Screen (OCS) is a stroke-specific cognitive screening tool developed by Demeyere et al. (2015), and designed to detect domain-specific cognitive impairments in stroke patients. The test was originally created in English and has now been translated in several languages. However, currently, no officially validated French version of the OCS has been published. The aim of this study was to provide preliminary normative data for the French adaptation of the OCS (OCS-Fr) and to examine its psychometric equivalence with the original English version. A sample of 96 cognitively healthy French-speaking adults (58 women, 38 men; aged 18–84 years) were recruited through convenience sampling. One-sample t-tests compared the French means to the English normative data reported by Demeyere et al. (2015). Effect sizes (Cohen's d) and 5th percentile cut-offs were also computed. To examine the influence of age on OCS-Fr performance One-way ANOVAs were conducted with eta-squared (η²) reported as a measure of effect size. Finally, convergent validity was explored by calculating Pearson correlations between the MoCA and the OCS-Fr subtests. Results showed that French participants performed at or above the English reference on most subtests, and that the French 5th percentile cut-offs matched those of the English version for nearly every subtest. Significant positive correlations were found between the MoCA and the OCS-Fr subtests, especially in memory and language domains. These results suggest that OCS-Fr shows a preliminary psychometric equivalence with the original English version.
