- Abstract
- This study explores how the rapid rise of Generative AI is transforming the management consulting industry , especially when it comes to client-consultant relationship. Based on sixteen interviews with consulting professionals in Belgium, the research examines the impact of AI on human expertise, trust, and transparency. The findings show that as AI automates basic knowledge production, the value of a consultant shifts from simply providing information to offering deep contextual understanding and relationship skills. Because AI tools can sometimes be inaccurate, client trust is increasingly built on the consultant's integrity and strict data management rather than just technical expertise. Furthermore, while the exact use of AI by consultants is rarely fully disclosed, clients generally accept this as long as the final results are high quality and interpersonal trust is strong. Ultimately, the research concludes that AI is not replacing consultants. Instead, it redefines their role. Today, clients no longer pay simply for raw data or intellectual production; they pay for human judgment, risk mitigation, and the professional accountability needed to make strategic decisions in an uncertain environment.
