- Abstract
- Introduction: Stroke is one of the main causes of long-term disability. Many patients face physical deconditioning one year after stroke which could affect their quality of life. Cardiorespiratory fitness and perception of exertion are objective and subjective clinical parameters for assessing fitness and physical activity level in patients one year after stroke, respectively. Objective: to provide an initial assessment of the physical activity, the cardiorespiratory fitness, and the exertion perception level of patients one year post- stroke in Benin. Methods: This is a cross-sectional and non-interventional study carried out in an outpatient rehabilitation center in Benin in August 2019. Fourteen participants were matched to 28 controls according to sex, age, and place of residence. Subjects were equipped with an accelerometer and assessed with several tools and tests. Results: our findings showed that stroke patients were very inactive and deconditioned compared to controls.
