Abstract
Introduction: Patients with chronic diseases suffer from a lack of information and support in living with their condition. Peer support is a solution to overcome the loneliness and misinformation of patients. Three info modules were developed to give patients the tools and advice necessary to integrate a peer support community. Method: A literature review was conducted to identify the benefits and disadvantages of online support networks. Existing applications and support forums were tested. Patients' input were taken into account through an online survey and interviews with patient associations. State of the art: The literature has identified that peer support improves patients' mental health by providing support and a sense of belonging. The self-management of their pathology has also been shown to improve. On the other hand, it has highlighted the need for moderation and anonymity on these platforms. Patients’ needs: The interviews and survey revealed that patients do not want to join new platforms that they do not know how to operate. Their testimonies confirmed the importance of peer support in their suffering. Creation of the info modules: Three info modules have been created, one for all chronic pathologies and two others specific to pathologies: obesity and COPD. These modules have been tested with the patients concerned. Conclusion: The info modules were created based on the literature review, patient surveys and expert interviews, but could be further improved by collecting more testimonies from patients with different chronic conditions
